sound presentation feedback and learner response

·        Interesting concept- basing it on lyrics rather than style of music.
·        Parallel images do fit with music
·        Contrapuntal images work too- I wasn’t sure if the concept would work in practise but it does.
·        Good discussion afterwards too

I would use a piece of music that would relate without listening to the lyrics

cinematography

Cinematography

The film trailer ‘American Gangster’ fall under the genre crime and drama. The trailer begins with an establishing shot of the city and then a medium shot of the main character. The medium close up shot of the main character allows the audience to see his appearance in the movie and his facial expression; he gives out a serious look.  The main character is walking and the camera is moving across as he is walking and this also connoted that the movie is based on him or surrounded by him. When the main character is in the bank counting the money the camera is at a low angle and it shows the characters power at that moment. The camera switches from the police man to the main character and this shows the contrast between them.

ASA banned ads

The first advert is a hate campaign about mothers and its Fathers4justice advert. This image was banned by the ASA because it was against mothers. And giving out the wrong ideas to the public. In the image it has a toddler with bad terms written all over him. These words are meant to be describing mothers and that is the main reason why the ASA has banned this advert. The ASA recieved 10 complaints about this advert and it was a misleading claim about mothers.
I think this advert should be banned because not all mothers are like that and it is giving out the wrong image. It also seems like a gender hate and that women are being attacked in this advert.

This second advert is being offensive to gypsies because they are saying bigger fatter and gypsier.  All with full stops at the end emphasizing that gypsies aren't like ordinary people. This image was also promoting the big fat gypsy wedding on channel four. It is showing a negative image of the gypsy people because it shows an aggressive young boy. And this is trying to connote that all gypsy people are violent and aggressive. That is why the ASA have banned this ad because is a hate poster  about gypsies.
I think this ad should of been banned because gypsies are ordinary people and they also have rights.

Film noir

Film noir

Film noir is a term used to describe Hollywood crime dramas particularly those that emphasize cynical attitudes and sexual motivations. It started in the mid-1940 to the late 1950’s and that’s where it had stopped. It is in black and white, and the lighting is a big part in the filming.

In this image they use low-key lighting because you can’t see the actors they are just shadows and the smoke behind them is the only light in that frame. You can’t see the actor’s faces and this connotes that the director done this so it looks suspicious. But it makes them stand out in the frame because of the bright smoke behind them. There is a key-light behind them because their shadows come to the foreground, this is affective if it’s a crime scene or the actor’s identities are meant to be hidden.

They are also in an alleyway or a backstreet and this connotes that something suspicious is happening. The low-key light also makes it look very serious and the man is walking towards the woman but you can’t see the man’s face. The genre for this particular movie could be romance or a crime drama because there is a man and woman involved. Also they are in sneaky and dangerous places.

The trailer is ‘A woman in the window’ high-key lighting is mainly used in this trailer. The trailer starts off with high-key on the first two main characters then introduces them still in high-key. The movie is mostly in high-key. The movie i think is a romance because there is high-key lighting on all the women. This connotes that it is a romance and the women are made to look attractive. But then later in the movie it mentions crime and the clip suddenly switches to low-key. It is the part when everything turns bad and the lighting changes from bright to dark which connotes that trouble is beginning.
