ill manors trailer

It gives you an idea of what the movie is about and who starts in it. It also gives you a visual of the quality of the movie and you have an insight on how the movie is going to be, by seeing a short clip. It is a typical trailer because it shows the main actors in the trailer and has snippets of them acting. It also has a visual of the movie and makes the viewer understand better. It also has a location where this makes the trailer more urban and relatable to the audience. It is trying to promote that no all young people are trouble makers and only a minority are. Also the government hasn’t done anything for those young people. Instead they are making things harder by closing their community centres and not giving many job opportunities for them. And this is why they resolve to violence and trouble because they get no help.
They are distributed on YouTube and some social networking sites, so the target group that uses this media will see it. It is a good way of being in the target groups eyes and it is there for them to play easily.
Plan B uses his music to promote his movie and he uses it in the trailer. The music creates an atmosphere and creates a feeling of how the movie is going to be.
I would say the target audience is from 16-22 year olds because the characters are roughly their age so they are meant to emphasize with them. They might be going through those situations or they might have friends who are. The video has young people in it mainly and Plan B is trying to say that young people are misunderstood. It has more young black boys in the video because they are stereotyped as trouble makers by the government. And also all young people with hoodies are stereotyped as trouble makers and thieves. And the government doesn’t understand young people as well, so they choose to assume that they are bad.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·        <!--[endif]-->Safe house is the blockbuster film i chose to compare ill manors with. Safe house is a successful Hollywood movie and it had a budget of $85 million and made $207,884,401 from box office.

15 certificates: Strong violence- could be a lot and sometimes there is stronger language but not a lot, strong language, sexual activity is shown. They show graphic scenes but not too bad for young. Misuse of drugs such as solvents is unlikely to be accepted in a 15.
18 certificate: Very strong violence, very strong language, strong portrayals of sexual activity, strong blood and gore scenes, real sex- very strong, crude and explicit sex references are permitted.  And anything can be shown to this age group because they considered adults

    Existing product research

    Existing product research:

Anuvahood is a movie I am researching about and this is the same target audience as my TV programme. It is an urban movie and the language and the costume they use in it would be the same as my TV programme. It starts off with a close up of the main character and two other boys which are having a dialogue. But the movie doesn’t get to the title sequence after all the action and the boy leaves. The sound is a conversation between three characters and then it changes to the main character confronting someone else. This movie has a similar target audience as my programme and for this reason I am researching about them. They young people would watch this because they might know a friend or they might act like this. And the film shows the comedy side to it and how people live in those types of areas.

I am also using a programme on YouTube called ‘mandem on the wall’ and this also has the same genre and target audience as the TV programme I am making. It starts with a 45 second title sequence and films every character; it has music related to the show and sets the show up for the audience. It has a long shot of every character to show what they are wearing and what they are doing at that moment. Although this show doesn’t have that much media recognition it would be the sort of thing I would make because they use the right camera shots and it would reflect how my show would look.

The inbetweeners is a show I am researching about as well, because it has the same audience as my show. It starts with a 30 second title sequence and gives a glimpse of all 4 main characters, which is a hint that the show is based on the. Inbetweeners is for young people and maybe which are in school that enjoy comedy. It appeals to them for different reasons because they might relate to some of the characters or the situations they go through while in school. It also could be someone that is trying to find themselves that is young and wants to relate to someone. Older people could watch this as well maybe if they have children which are young adults. Or if they just want to understand young adults more and want to have something with comedy.

The fourth show I am researching about is Fresh meat although this show doesn’t have the same target audience as my show. It is a low budget show which is similar to my programme and the camera shots they use are what I’m looking for. Older viewers would watch this show so they can understand what students at university go through. Younger viewers would watch this so they know that they aren’t the only ones that are going through problems at university. It is an urban show and you can see this by the camera shots, it is not a big budget show but very affective and I would want my programme to replicate this.

My last show is about waterloo road and this show uses many different camera angles and also has good cinematography. This is also the exact age group I would target but not the same demographic group. They use good costumes and it is very believable, also the acting is good. They also have a serious feel to their show, because it isn’t humour and gives a message. Also it is the age group I am targeting and the actors fit the age range, also it is a low budget British show and my production is low budget.

    preliminary evaluation

    Media preliminary evaluation

    What went well:
    • 1.                   The tilting shot
    • 2.                   And the continuity of the opening door
    • 3.                   And the 180 rule

    Even better if:
    • 1.                   Some of the shots were jumpy (not edited well)
    • 2.                   Acting could be better
    • 3.                   The pace of him walking to the door

The things that went well with my preliminary task were that there was a good tilting shot used at the beginning. It gives you a sight of what the actors costume is and the way they are walking. It also built some tension because of the pace the actor was walking and it was tilting up slow. Also at the beginning there was a continuity shot where is showed the actor holding the door handle, and then it changing to him entering the room. This was a good shot because it was executed well and showed how good editing was at points. The 180 rule was used well in this exercise because we done it well and it showed both actors at the right angle. It gave me experience when I am doing my filming. And it showed me how important that rule is in the filming process.

Some of the shots used weren’t edited well enough because it didn’t flow well and some bits were a little jumpy. It made it look unprofessional and that is an aspect were I would need to improve my filming. I could improve this by filming more and editing it better. Also the acting wasn’t that good and we could have made our lines better. Also there was background noise and we could record the voices and sync it in when I am editing. This could resolve my issue because the sound would be clear and would have no background noise. Also when the actor was walking to the door the pace he was walking to the door was unrealistic, and the acting could have been better.  There was a point where the actor walked inside the room and I tried to follow him in the classroom with the camera. And that shot could have been improved because it wasn’t smooth and looked unnatural, I was trying to imitate someone is in the room and is watching it. Also the filming looked unnatural and it was hard to feel how the actors were feeling. And it was hard to understand what was happening for the audience, so for this reason i think we should have planned what we were doing better. And we should of used different shots and try something new. The story line was a little boring so yes in the future i will try and be more creative.

I could improve the shots I use by selecting the right shots and planning it on my storyboard. And also writing up a shot list can help me a lot because it organises my shots and I know what to do when I am filming. It also makes my production more professional because it flows well and this will improve my grade and production. This helped me in my preliminary because I knew how I was going to film my shots and where it was going to take place. This made the editing easier and therefore made my production better.  Although I needed to put more detail on my storyboard and shot list because at points I had to think about it because it wasn’t planned.

Overall the exercise went well and I learnt from my mistakes and how I can improve my filming. I learnt some new techniques when I am filming. Acting plays a big part in the production of the programme because the audience want to feel and understand what is happening. Also the editing could have been better because at points the clip didn’t flow and I could do this better in the future. I could have recorded more because it would have made it easier to edit it later.

    Ill manors

They album was recorded at the sanctuary recording studio and this album had many producers Plan B being the main one. It also had Labrinth, Al shux, Eric Appapoulay, David McEwan and other as their producers. The record label was Atlantic and its parent company being Warner brother which is a worldwide recognised company.  It was number 1 in the UK on the chart albums, it was rated 83 out of 100 on the website Metacritic.

    -Media Forms:

It has animation and an image of his lyrics and you can also see what he is talking about and this engages the audience. Because they can also see and understand better what the artist is saying. It also has a gritty and urban scene so the audience understands that this is their environment and the government doesn’t do much to support them.
Also the cinematography gives you a feel of what is happening around you, and you feel like you are in the middle of the action. And it makes the audience emphasize with them because they see young kids on the street and this will make them feel sorry for them.

    -Media Representation:

The video has young people in it mainly and Plan B is trying to say that young people are misunderstood. It has more young black boys in the video because they are stereotyped as trouble makers by the government. And also all young people with hoodies are stereotyped as trouble makers and thieves. And the government doesn’t understand young people as well, so they choose to assume that they are bad.

    -Media Institution:

It is a typical music video because it shows the main artist in the video. It also has a visual of the lyrics and makes the viewer understand better. It also has a location where this makes the video more urban and relatable to the audience. It is trying to promote that no all young people are trouble makers and only a minority are. Also the government hasn’t done anything for those young people. Instead they are making things harder by closing their community centres and not giving many job opportunities for them. And this is why they resolve to violence and trouble because they get no help.

    -Media Audiences:

The artist relates to young people that are in similar situation. Those have had a lot of struggles when growing up and have grown up in rough areas. They are misunderstood by generally it is for all young people because the majority are in difficult situations. He is trying to make the older generation understand that not all young people are hoodlums. And they aren’t all into crime; they are truly misunderstood by the government. And they need support to express and help them. But the government doesn’t do anything to help them. So this is why they are always out and up to no good. And they are all different people only a minority cause problems but not all of them.

    Psychographics

    Explorer

This advert would relate to explorer because they would want to try something new and this trainer is new. This trainer is for someone that enjoys adventure and someone that has a lot of energy. Also not many people have the trainer so it makes them different from other people. Also this shoe would be good for someone that has a lot of energy, and someone which is trying to find themselves.

    Aspirer

This trainer relates to an aspirer because this trainer is expensive and mainly materialistic people would purchase them. Also someone that cares about their image and someone who has an expensive appearance would purchase and relate to this shoe. They also pay attention to detail and all their clothing has the same colour.

    Strugglers

This advert is for people which are struggling and can’t afford high end food. They resolve to junk food and alcohol. Also they make when having a meal a family thing, and the food brings them closer. They are traditional as well because they are eating as a family and everyone is involved.
    Succeeder

This is for someone that is after quality and high end products. These headphones are top of the range and they are setting a trend by purchasing them. These headphones are expensive and the individual is saying it relates to them. They are wearing top of the range and expensive headphones which reflects them.

    Mainstream

This is for someone which the copies the majority of the public and is just like everyone else. The majority of the public goes to this store not depending on your wealth. The store isn't expensive but it attracts middle and working class people.  It is a family brand and it is well known so the mainstream would shop at this supermarket.

    Resigned

They don't change their opinions and interests and purchase the same product because of the consistency. So they are traditional and its safety to buy the same things. Also they don't follow what the mainstream buy and do what they want. They enjoy the past and don’t like change and modern things. The classic Nokia would relate to this demographic because of the age.

    Reformer

I think this advert would relate to a reformer because it is freedom from restriction. And it has personal growth so they can try something new and refreshing. This advert has a man on his own in the wilderness and it shows he is free. And refreshed and that his surroundings are clear and free.

I would say I'm an explorer and a merge of an aspirer because I have qualities that would fit into both categories. I like trying new brands and pay attention to detail and I believe that I'm a merge of both demographic groups.

    represenation

The advert above targets a male audience because it is a sports car and it is red, so this type of car wouldn’t be targeted at women. The audience knows that Men enjoy buying the latest and fastest cars on the market and this would be very appealing to them. Also men would research this product because it interests them and women wouldn’t bother.
Sports cars a gendered at males because it is a stereotyped as mainly men are better drivers and women are stereotyped as being bad drivers. The car looks fast and women generally don’t want fast cars, family cars are generally targeted at women.
The advert above targets men and has a male driver so yes males are the targets for sports cars. It is a stereotype that women are poor drivers therefore the target market is generally males.

Beer is usually advertised to men because males usually drink beer and they are the target audience. This is because it shows a man and a beer with a woman in the background and it says ‘long distance relationship’ meaning that the main enjoys beer more than female company. Also because it has a Man first and they are the target audience, he is holding the beer in his hand and this connotes that he has a better relationship with the beer.
If they had a girls night out advert and then the women drinking the beer this would appeal to women. But the people that market this product think that women don’t drink and aren’t interested in alcohol. But it would be hard to advertise alcohol that would appeal to both genders.

The print advert above is targeted at mothers because it attracts families and mothers deal with the house work generally. This product would be hard to be targeted at men because they don’t usually buy household products. It also says in the advert ‘looking out for the family’ and mothers look out for the family. Also it could be for a family that has a dog for a pet because it looks like it is for that type of family.
I don’t think this advert could appeal for both genders because men don’t usually get involved with the house work and this wouldn’t appeal to them. This advert is usually targeted at mothers and housewives because it is stereotyped that they do the domestic work.

This advert is targeted at men because it shows an image of man spraying himself. It is a stereotype that men have bad body odour so they are the target market for this advert and product. It says next to the spray can ‘even angels will fall’ and this means that if you use this spray you will attract women.
I think it would be difficult to attract and appeal to both genders in the same advert. Females are generally seen as clean and they use of an advert for both genders would be hard because they both have different needs.  Also men generally use sprays where as women use roll on so this is a reason why it would be difficult to appeal to both.

Most airline adverts use women air hostesses and this is meant to be appealing to males to make them use that airline. They also use attract females so this attracts more males to the flight. The airline companies believe that males travel more than females so they are the target market for these adverts. Women still travel with planes but aren’t attracted by these adverts but the travel because it is necessary. Same with males but this makes them choose a specific airline because it is more appealing for them.
It would be difficult for the advert to appeal to both genders because the advert is for heterosexual males and it wouldn’t attract women.

Cleaning products are usually targeted at mothers and housewives because they usually purchase these items. They are the target market because they usually do the cleaning for families. It is a stereotype that these goods are targeted at them but yes they are the target market.
It is hard for these items to appeal to both genders because males won’t purchase these goods unless instructed by their wives. If is seen that the woman does all the domestic cleaning so they would only purchase these goods.

Trainers are for both genders but it depends on the colour of the trainer for example the trainer above if targeted at women because of the pink colour used. It is hard to target both genders because the colour has a big part in the trainer. Also the shape of the shoe makes a difference, this shoe targets female because of the pink.
Trainers are usually targeted at men because they are a wider target group because men usually buy them. Females generally buy high heels or flat shoes and trainers is not something they would buy. So it is hard to target both in one advert.

Games are usually targeted at families but generally males it depends on the game, if it sports or action then usually males. If it is dance or singing games then that is a family game. It doesn’t depend on the console but the game has a big factor.

Both genders can be targeted because the games console is for both but the games are not targeted at both. For example shooting games don’t target females because it is too violent and aggressive for them. Also sports games are not targeted at females because they aren’t interested in that genre.

    Fish tank research

         1. BBC Films, UK Film council and Limelight communication.
          2.   Md
         3. I think the BBC is the most successful out of all of them because they are the best known out of all of them. They also have a lot of funds behind them and they can promote their films more and easier.  They have also produced famous films like west is west.
         4. It cost 3 million to produce the movie.
        5.   The below films had a budget of 5 million or less:
    Kidulthood
    Anuvahood
    Shank
    The inbetweeners movie
    Beginners
    6.  BBC films and limelight communication funded fish tank.
      7.  The other ways British films are funded: the uk film council,, the national lottery film fund, the can fund themselves, communities and friends.
          8. Fish tank was targeted at 15 year olds and above.
           9. The main distributors of fish tank were: the independent film channel and artificial eye.
           10.   A film distributor is a company which promotes the movie and sells it to cinema’s to show they market the film.
              11.   It was promoted in France, Cannes film festival and UK film council.
              12.   The difference between Hollywood films and fish tank is the cinematography, the camera shots and the movement. Hollywood movies have big budgets so they get the best cameras and directors. Whereas fish tank didn’t have a big budget so they couldn’t produce the same quality. Also Hollywood have well known actors whereas fish tank had unknown actors or not very famous ones.
         13.   Dc
          14.
          15.   15 is the age set by the film company and nobody younger can watch it. The use of swear words in the movie and there was some sex scenes but it wasn’t too graphic this is why this was deemed acceptable. But 15 year olds can’t rent or purchase any films, it wasn’t too serious so this why it was at 15. But at 18 there is more nudity and they are more graphic.

    fish tank review

    Fish tank film review
Mia a young girl aged 15 that aren’t very popular on her estate; she doesn’t have many friends and doesn’t get along with a lot of people. She enjoys dancing and this is how she expresses her feelings. The director has planned this movie carefully and every detail makes a difference and makes the view stronger.

Andrea Arnold presents Mia as a troubled teenager living in a rough area and she finds it hard to express her feelings so that’s why she is always rude and moody. She uses music to express how she feels. She isn’t scared of anything because she nearly got beaten up when she tried to steal the horse. And when the social worker had visited the house she just walked out. So authority means nothing to her although she begins to respect her mother’s boyfriend towards the end. She doesn’t get along with anyone because nobody understands her that’s why she is always on her own.

I think this movie represents British, working class and single mother family in some ways and it gives people a different insight of life.  Its gives a good representation of the setting and the costume of how people like that live. The costume of the female characters in the movie also shows the stereotypes of girls living on council estates that they are either ‘slag’s’ or ‘chavs. The film also has a lot of swearing and abusive words in it to show that the people are illiterate and this how some people live in the UK.

Mia gets taken advantage of her mother’s boyfriend because he is nice to but exploits her one night. She slowly falls in love with her mother’s boyfriend but at one point realises that he doesn’t feel the same and he just used her. And then walks out on the family and her because he didn’t want to be involved anymore. This is why when she goes to his house and see’s that he has a family on his own she reacts by urinating on the carpet. And that’s the way an animal would act and she doesn’t know any other way to express herself. Mia tries to kidnap Connor’s daughter out of revenge so he can feel how she felt and how the family felt.

Mia doesn’t want to be anything like her mother, getting used by men and getting drunk. But in reality she is because that’s the only role model she has and she is behaving like her mother without being conscious of what she is doing. This is why she chooses to move away from her mother and area, she is the only one that has a dream throughout the movie.

The movie ended like a fairy tale or like most Hollywood movies where the protagonist lives happily ever after. And her moving away with her boyfriend gives a new start to life. Although she is moving from her sister and mother it helps her grow and try something new.

The actors also played a big part in the film because they added a sense of realism and this made the audience realise that it actually happens in life. It also made the audience emphasize with the family and they could feel how the actors were feeling. Also the cinematography played a big part in the movie, because some shots weren’t perfect but it reminded the audience that the movie wasn’t meant to be glamorous but the gritty reality. There were some shots which summed up the whole scene and this made the audience understand and feel what the character is going through.

The movie is targeted at 15 years old or above because some parts are a bit graphic to young viewers. But the movie shows an interesting insight of how single mothers live. It also shows how it is hard for a family to live without a male figure in the house.

Production of media awards 2012 anlysis

    Inner redemption
The music at the beginning made me think it was a romantic movie although the title was a bit contrapuntal. I thought it was romance because of the shot that were used and it was a sunset. Also the boy in the clip made me think that as well. But as the trailer went on there is a close up of the girl and you can see the horror on her face which makes you emphasize as a viewer. The editing of that shot was really good and it made you emphasize with the character and there was a good choice of music. This gave viewers some suspense because they were on the edge of their seats to know what was going to happen next and they weren't sure if it is a romance or a horror movie.

W.W.W: The sound and music used in the clip and also the editing of the clip made it collaborate together.
E.B.I:  Some of the shots were too far away from the scene and it was hard to relate and understand that bit.

    The Paper boy
The genre was horror and it had fulfilled what it had promised. They used good cinematography and different shot which were really effective. They use a panning shot to give you a surrounding of the setting which is a school. A medium shot of the boy that had been bullied is shown it shows his past because they had done a flashback '10 years later' to explain that they have gone back in time.

W.W.W: The cinematography was really good because it captured the movie and was right for the genre. And it had been edited very well.
E.B.I: They should have explained some bits of the trailer better and make the viewers understand what is happening at that point.

sound presentation feedback and learner response

    ·        Interesting concept- basing it on lyrics rather than style of music.
    ·        Parallel images do fit with music
    ·        Contrapuntal images work too- I wasn’t sure if the concept would work in practise but it does.
    ·        Good discussion afterwards too

I would use a piece of music that would relate without listening to the lyrics

    cinematography

    Cinematography

The film trailer ‘American Gangster’ fall under the genre crime and drama. The trailer begins with an establishing shot of the city and then a medium shot of the main character. The medium close up shot of the main character allows the audience to see his appearance in the movie and his facial expression; he gives out a serious look.  The main character is walking and the camera is moving across as he is walking and this also connoted that the movie is based on him or surrounded by him. When the main character is in the bank counting the money the camera is at a low angle and it shows the characters power at that moment. The camera switches from the police man to the main character and this shows the contrast between them.
